Getting text to read well on a photograph
- An outline is what makes white text readable. Plain white letters vanish over a bright sky and plain black ones vanish over a shadow. A dark outline a few pixels wide keeps the text legible over anything, which is why every meme caption and every news chyron has one.
- The download is at full resolution. The editing view is scaled down to fit your screen, but the file is rendered at the source image's own pixel size — a 4000px photo comes back 4000px, with the text rendered crisply at that scale rather than upscaled from the preview.
- Fonts are the ones every device already has. Impact, Arial, Georgia, Courier and Comic Sans render the same for you as for whoever you send it to. Text is drawn into the pixels, so the recipient does not need the font at all.
- Add as many boxes as you like. Each one has its own font, size, colour and outline, so a top-and-bottom meme caption or a title with a subtitle underneath is two boxes, not a compromise between them.
- Nothing is uploaded. The image is drawn on a canvas in your browser and the result is rendered there too. A photo of a document, a screenshot with private details, a picture of your family — none of it leaves the device.
